2016 Championship and Silver Meeting

The Championship was first played at Formby in 1938. The first day of the Championship is an 18 hole Medal Round for players with handicaps of 20.4 and under. This is combined with the Silver Meeting, for which there is a prize for the Best Gross, presented by the President of the Association, and 4 nett prizes.  The best 16 gross scores qualify for matchplay over two days. The Champion for the year is presented with the Championship Trophy, which is a silver salver, and the Captain of the Association's Prize. The Runner Up receives a prize and the Runner's Up Trophy, which is also a silver salver, presented by the Association in 2008.

The Championship and Silver Meeting was held at the West Lancashire Golf Club from 4th to 6th May.

We were blessed with a perfect day for the qualifying round for the Championship and the Silver Meeting.

The matchplay stages produced some excellent matches and produced a great Champion in Chris Stokes who has won the Championship for the third time in six years!  Well done Chris, and all the best for the Northern Championship in a couple of weeks!

We have our Champion for 2016, and for the third time in six years, it is Chris Stokes from Clitheroe Golf Club!  Chris was also Runner Up last year, and has proved that she is the player to beat in our Championship in recent years.  The morning semi finals were both close fought with Chris winning 2&1 against Grainne Pendlebury, and Ann Lowe winning 2 up against last year's Champion, Chris Appleby.   In the final, despite Ann winning the first hole, Chris was relentless and produced some superb golf to win on the 15th.
