Course Open

Finals day took place on Sunday 3 October 2021. Sadly this year we had Finals Day with a difference due to the fact that many of the Clubs Knockout Competitions could not take place due to the impact of  Covid.

Nevertheless two finals were contested, the Junior Final for the Aimee Cox Trophy which was contested between William Tate and William Davies, and the Men’s Captains Prize Final for the Ronald Dransfield Trophy contested between Marc Webb and Jerry Bown.

Both finals commenced in blustery and showery conditions, the course was again in magnificent condition and it was good to see that Stuart Hogg had not left the pins in the impossible positions they had been in the day before for the annual Greenkeepers Revenge Competition. It was lovely to see that Aimee Cox was able to walk round and watch the Junior Final. The final was refereed by Caryl Evans and was hotly contested and in very tough conditions William Davies prevailed to win on the 19th hole.

The Captains Final refereed by the Captain Andrew Selby was again a very close match played in great spirit with both finalists playing excellent golf despite the conditions. The final was won by Jerry Bown 3 and 1.

It was great to see both finals being well supported and a big thank you to everybody who braved the conditions to give the finalists support.

At the prize giving Aimee presented the trophy in her name to William Davies and the Captain presented the Ronald Dransfield Trophy together with the Captains prize to Jerry Bown. Both Marc Webb and William Tate received mementos to acknowledge them reaching their respective finals.

It’s to be hoped that next year we will see all finals contested as we return to normality.
