The Junior Section of the club held their Annual Meeting on Sunday 24th February. Around 25 juniors who were joined by their parents and relatives attended the meeting along with the Captain Rob Howard and Lady Captain Janet Owen. The Junior Captain for 2019 Connor Broadfoot was formally appointed and handed the Junior Captain’s badge of office by the Captain.

The Junior section has another busy year ahead with many outside competitions and matches to play in apart from their own fixtures including the Junior Club Championship which will be played over 36 holes on Wednesday 21st August. There will also be an Exchange trip to Marks’ Golf Club in Sweden and Phil Marsh and Caryl Evans will be taking ten juniors on this very popular exchange trip, which will be our fourth visit to Sweden. This will take place during the Summer School holidays, 26-31.7. We are hosting the annual Quadrangular Junior Scratch Tournament for 7-8 of our lowest handicap players, which will be played in the Easter holidays on Thursday 11th April.

Five junior teams of five players took part in a Skills Challenge competition before the AGM which included, putting both indoors and outdoors, chipping and nearest the pin play. The winning team was Michael Casey, Nick Boland, William Davies, Dylan Carr and Sam Williams. We also had an individual nearest the pin competition and in the 8-13 age group Nick Boland (12ft from the pin) was just pipped by the winner Ben Barton (11ft from the pin). In the 14-17 age group the winner was Connor Broadfoot (13ft from the pin).

The 2019 Junior fixtures were outlined and entries taken for the annual Amee Cox 18 hole knock out competition. A 9 hole knock out competition for the younger juniors who don’t yet play 18 holes was introduced this year. Gavin Abson and his assistants are also introducing a special Easter and Summer golf camp for up to 10 players to further improve the golfing skills of those juniors taking part.

A new National Junior Knock out competition has been introduced to replace the RBL competition for teams of four with the early stages of this knockout being played locally. Further information about all these fixtures will be available from Phil Marsh and Caryl Evans.
