The Ladies’ special 125th Anniversary lunch was held on Wednesday 26th October to mark the historic occasion 125 years ago, to the day, when the Ladies’ club was founded by 38 forward thinking entrepreneurial ladies. This final big celebration of the Ladies’ anniversary year, organised by the Ladies’ 125th Anniversary committee, was attended by 104 ladies including eighteen former lady members who were delighted to visit the club again for this very special occasion. A special exhibition depicting historical material including minute books, old photographs of the previous ladies’ club houses and activities, a variety of archived photo albums as well as pictorial collages of this year’s special events was displayed around the club house. After the welcome drinks and canapés followed by a much enjoyed lunch the Lady Captain spoke about the details of this special occasion and celebrated year for the ladies. She was followed by the guest speaker Gay Rhodes who entertained and amused all the ladies at the lunch with her delightful witty speech. The immediate past Lady Captain, Meryl Wilson, responded on behalf of the ladies present to thank Gay for her wonderful entertaining speech.
Ladies’ 125th Anniversary cards and prints depicting the specially commissioned painting by John Haslam of the clubhouse are available for purchase through the office.
