LADIES UPDATE 17th JULY 2020
I am delighted to say that 63 ladies played in the first Qualifying Competition on Tuesday.
The results are published on the website.
As we are in unusual times this year and are trying to catch up with some of the Competitions we have missed we have made some slight adjustments.
GWEN TYSON STABLEFORD – 21/07/20
The Gwen Tyson is a Stableford Competition.
It is usually played in the school holidays to enable Juniors over 14 to play for the Junior Challenge Cup. Unfortunately it was originally planned for the week when the course is closed for the Ladies Amateur so we have altered it.
This year it will incorporate the Senior Vets, Vets, Non- vets and the Junior Challenge Cup.
For this reason you will be asked to tell the Pro Shop staff which category you are signing into when you pay.
Senior Vets – over 70 Vets – over 60 Non-vets and Juniors
It would also be helpful to the person entering the score into the computer and the card checker, if your category was indicated on the card.
As you are aware you must have a Genuine 40 Handicap for entry to the Main Meetings.
A decision has been taken to play a 9 hole qualifier on the occasion of these meetings. There is however a time restriction.
Entry to the main competition will be between 8.00am and 12.00pm
From 12.10pm the competition entry will be a 9 Hole Qualifier on the Blue Course.
These tee times may be booked 3 days in advance as usual.
These players may not play through the field ahead who are playing in the Main Meeting.
Please ask the Pro Shop to sign you into the competition and take your payment. Please mark one card between 3 as in a Tuesday Comp and put it in the box in the Ladies locker room.
You can of course mark a card as usual for each other but make sure all 3 scores are on one card , agreed verbally, signed by the marker and put in the box at the end. Gross scores are what matter.
These are open to ladies and gentlemen alike. Look out for them on the time sheet and fixture list.
DON BASTOW COMPETITION
This is an individual competition played on a Sunday and is open to both ladies and gentlemen playing in 3s and can be played in mixed company. The ladies play the red course and there is an adjustment for a lady’s handicap.
Christine Coligan has sat on the Premises Committee for the last 4 years. It is currently chaired by Chris McGrory. Christine wishes to retire from the C’ee and informed me before lockdown. We are now looking for another lady to replace her. If we have any willing volunteer please would you get in touch with me. Christine is very happy to discuss the role and her experience. I am anxious that the ladies are represented on Club Committees. This committee is all male at the moment. It is responsible for the buildings and the décor, soft furnishings etc. Everything other than the course itself!
BRIDGE – a message from Anne Gregory
‘We went into lockdown before the bridge prizes and trophies were presented. I will see that the vouchers are delivered to the prize-winners.
The Lucy Meadows competition was won by Colette Connell and Mary Barber. There runners up were Beryl Almond and Jan Owen.
The Iris Teare competition was won by Muriel Griffiths. The runner up was Jan Owen.
I have been in contact with the bridge captains of the clubs we have matches with over the winter. We have agreed that there will be no matches in the coming season. Should there be a miraculous development regarding the pandemic we can review the decision.’
Ladies, I hope all this makes sense – please understand why we are having to make changes to the fixture list. We are still booking at 3 days notice on the timesheet as there is still great pressure on the tee. We are doing our best to accommodate everybody. We understand the Blue course will be available early August and we will keep you informed of any further changes that are necessary.
There will be a Mixed Competition on the August Bank Holiday Monday as usual. Details nearer the time.
