LADIES NEWSLETTER
News
Mo Dickson is doing very well recovering from her operation at home but still isolating for a while longer. She wishes me to pass on her thanks to all those ladies who have been getting in touch and wishing her well. She looks forward to being able to see people but not yet. The great news is that she needs no follow up treatment; she just needs time to recuperate and restore her immune system with time and immunizations as she has had her spleen removed.
Jo is also doing well and had good news on Monday. She is now able to try and bend her knee further and can get out in the car a little. I believe she has ordered a wheelchair for temporary use to enable her friends to get her out for a change of scenery! I saw her on Friday, and she is making great progress. We may even get her to the Club for a coffee or lunch!
Collette Robertson will be back joining us in August as her application has now gone through and I know you will all make her welcome when you see her.
Penny and Cath have recruited 8 ladies to the 125 Scheme to begin in September and again I am sure you will make them feel welcome and offer guidance if needed. I think Cath is still looking for mentors and would be glad to hear from any lady willing to help.
Gavin and the boys have chosen Sandy as the name for their teddy mascot in the shop – the name was suggested by Jackie Bickerstaffe!
Dining
John Morris has circulated an email re the government scheme to support catering businesses during August on a Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. For clarity, John tells me that this means members will receive 50% discount on any food, soft drinks, coffee etc. Everything except alcohol and takeaway food! He is asking the chef to put a Special on for the ladies on a Tuesday so you might feel like making your lunch after golf your main meal of the day?!? On the other hand, like me, you may choose to have a lovely salad bowl with chips on the side rather than the usual sandwich! I thought a cake might be nice as well, with another coffee before going home so am going to suggest that also! For half price it would be rude not to partake.
There will also be the evening meals that John included in his email. The menus were linked, and booking is required.
Prizes
As it seems unlikely that we will be able to assemble for a Prizegiving any time soon, I have decided to take the prizes for the Optional Non-qualifying Competitions to the Club tomorrow. Please collect your prize from the Players Entrance if you have won one in the last few weeks. I have put names on them in case you can’t remember!
Tuesday 4th August 2020
This is a Fourball Team Event.
Best 2 Scores to count on each hole until the 18th when we need all 4 scores!!!
Stableford - Full Handicap
Playing in 4s can be very slow so…………. If you cannot score on a hole Please Pick Up!
Mixed Trophies
A decision has been made not to play for any of the Mixed trophies this year. We have already missed 2 of the main ones and there is no time to rebook them.
August 31st Bank Holiday Mixed
This will be a Canadian Greensomes format and I expect ‘Eat as you come in’ will be the most appropriate dining arrangement. It is highly unlikely that we can plan a prizegiving. The details will be confirmed nearer the time.
Ladies Amateur 2020
This is to be a ‘Behind Closed Doors’ event. Sadly, there are to be no spectators allowed
Don Bastow Trophy – Sunday 23/08/20
This is an individual Stableford competition open to both ladies and gentlemen. It can be played in a mixed field from the red and yellow tees
I have nothing else for you at the moment ladies, but I hope you are all well and still enjoying getting out on the course and now being able to socialise to a degree. Please try and support the Club in the offers they are advertising and the 50% discount available all day at the beginning of the week.
All the same rules apply – a one-way system in the clubhouse; no use of the locker rooms except for the toilets; please change your shoes in the car park and one scorecard between each group playing. We still need to follow all the social distancing guidance both on the course and in the clubhouse. It was lovely to sit on the balcony for lunch last week and to see so many of you at one time or another as you came in from the course, although I know many of you are starting to go away on holiday. Let’s hope for some more sunshine so we can utilise that gorgeous deck.
I would still like to hear news from you or anything I can share on your behalf with other lady members
