Lancashire Ladies’ County Golf Association organised their 100th County Championships at Lancaster Golf Club 27-29th May.

In the qualifying round played on Sunday 27th May the defending Champion Catherine Roberts recorded the lowest scratch score of the day with a 71 winning the Carr Gold Medal. Eloise Healey (West Lancashire) recorded the third best gross score and prize.

The top 16 players qualified for the match play in which both our West Lancashire players Eloise Healey and Lauren Green progressed to the semi final stages where they played each other and Lauren beat Eloise Healey 6&5 to secure her place in the final against the defending Catherine Roberts from Pleasington who beat her fellow member Alex Forrest in a tight semi final match on the 19th hole.

Despite losing the first two holes in the final Lauren played excellent golf and clawed her way back going 1 up and winning the short par 3, 14th hole, to go 2 up. On the tricky 15th hole when Catherine’s second shot to the green fell short due to catching the trees and Lauren found the green in two she made it dormy 3 up. A half on the 16th hole secured her first County Championship win with a 3&2 victory. This is a wonderful result for Lauren and the club as she won the Plate competition last year at Bolton Lostock, which is the second flight of the Championship, after narrowly missing out qualifying for the main competition. Lauren is our 6th winner of the County Championship making this a very memorable win as she is also the 100th Champion of the competition.
