The annual LLCGA Championship was played at Manchester (Hopwood) Golf Club 30.5-1.6.
After the 36 hole qualifying rounds on Sunday both our two members taking part, Melissa Ball and Lauren Green qualified for the match play rounds.
Lauren was the top qualifier with best gross scores in both the qualifying rounds winning the CARR GOLD MEDAL for the best morning round score. She was the only player to score under par in both rounds with gross scores of 72 and 73, aggregate of 145, which was 3 under par and 6 shots better than the next placed player. She has now reduced her handicap to +0.6.
In the first day of the knockout competition on Monday 31.5 Lauren Green won both her matches going through to the semi finals on Tuesday 1.6. Melissa Ball narrowly lost her match in the first knockout round.
In the semi finals on Tuesday morning Lauren beat her opponent Emily James from Royal Lytham 6 & 5 finishing the match with a superb birdie on the par 3, 13th hole. In the final, in the afternoon, she played Kirsty Field from Clitheroe and continued her good form and steady play beating Kirsty 5 & 4 chipping in for an eagle on the 14th hole to finish the match and claim the Championship. Lauren was a worthy winner and The Ladies’ County Champion for the second time in three years. She won her first County Championship in 2018 at Lancaster Golf Club. Many congratulations to Lauren who is a great ambassador for the club!
