Thursday 4th July at Wigan Golf Club.

The Meeting marks the 66th Anniversary of the Competition.

The event was founded in 1954 by Major Sam Greer and Mr Norman Stewart of Royal Birkdale Golf Club, to enable the Reigning Captains and the Immediate Ex-Captains of the eight local Clubs (Royal Birkdale, Wigan, S&A, Hesketh, West Lancs, Ormskirk, Hillside and Formby to meet together for an enjoyable days golf away from the stiff formality and protocol under which they normally meet.

The golf competition is a Fourball Aggregate Stableford from full handicap, every players score to be individually recorded.

The Club with the best two aggregate scores receiving the Reigning Captain’s Shield (donated by the founder members and redesigned in 2018) together with a small token prize.

There is a small prize also for the best individual score who is not a member of the winning team.

In addition there is a special Competition (started in 1978) for two extra Ex-Captain’s from each of the eight clubs, who play a Fourball on the same basis, the trophy being a silver salver (loaned to us by Formby Golf Club, The ex-Captains’ Shield).
