Gavin, originally from Solihull, joined the club in January 2016. Prior to that Gavin was Head PGA Golf Professional at The Carrick on Loch Lomond for 6 years during which he was a County Coach and a Bunkered Golf Magazine Teaching panellist for 6 years. Prior to joining the Carrick on Loch Lomond, Gavin spent two years as Qualified PGA Golf Professional at Royal Troon Golf Club.
Gavin started his PGA training, after completing an honours degree in Sport Management, as an Assistant Professional at Cocks Moors Woods Golf Course in Birmingham. Gavin spent 5 years here and during this period played full time on the PGA Europro Tour and also caddied on the European Tour on and off for nearly 10 years.
Gavin has vast experience coaching golfers of all ability levels, from complete beginners to fellow golf professionals and was appointed Lancashire Ladies Elite Squad Coach in 2017. In 2022 Gavin was appointed as a Lancashire County Boys coach to help deliver the ever growing County Academy Programme. Gavin is also highly trained in custom fitting using launch monitor technology such as GC Quad and Trackman.
James Dean

James joined the team at The West Lancashire Golf Club in 2018 after holding similar positions at Lewes Golf Club and Wycombe Heights Golf Centre. Most recently James spent three years working at Fox Hills Golf Club, Surrey where he became Head Assistant PGA Professional. James has a wealth of experience delivering a high level of customer service and has exceptional knowledge of both retail and coaching. James has coached golfers of all ability levels and will be on hand to help both members, their guests and visitors alike.
Ed Tranter
Qualified PGA Golf Professional
Ed joined The West Lancashire Golf Club in 2018 following working at Lilleshall Hall Golf Club where he worked in the professional shop since the age of 16. Ed has a wealth of experience delivering a high level of customer service and has exceptional knowledge of coaching, custom fitting and retail.. In addition to working in the professional shop Ed will represent the golf club when competing in PGA North Region and PGA National events.
James Rooney
Trainee PGA Golf Professional
James has been a member of The West Lancashire Golf Club since 2003 and has worked in the Professional Shop since 2017. James reached a handicap of +3.2 and represented Lancashire County at all levels, both Boys and Mens, and was also a regular member of the England Regional Squad. In 2016 James won the British University Championship here at The West Lancashire Golf Club where in the final round he shot a course record 63 which still stands today. In 2017 James graduated from Edgehill University with a Batchelor of Science degree in Sport and Exercise Science. After graduating James turned professional in 2017.
After turning professional in 2017 and following 3 years on the PGA Europro Tour, James embarked on his goal of becoming a Qualified PGA Golf Professional by joining the PGA training programme in 2022. James has a strong passion for custom fitting and the hardware element of retail.
