St. Andrew’s Meeting – Post-War Austerity!

The Ladies’ Clubhouse was irreparable after wartime Military usage. It was then damaged by fire, and blown and drifting sand reduced the course to 9 usable holes. So, the Club was put into Voluntary Liquidation, and in 1947, the members became Lady Members of the West Lancashire Golf Club.

Mrs Kath Macfarlane was presented to King George VI

As a member of the Royal Naval Voluntary Transport, she brought officers from Atlantic Convoys to the West Lancashire Ladies’ course for golf, despite the riverside minefield, and after shrapnel had been cleared!
