It was an event that Club member Penny Thompson (nee Burrows) had won in 1967 at Liphook. The winner, Perrine Delacour (France) beat England’s Elizabeth Mallett (Sutton Coldfield) in the final by two holes.

The winner was sixteen year old Matteo Manassero (Italy) who set our amateur course record of 65 strokes on his way to the final stages of the competition.

He was hosting winners in a National Competition, whose prize was to play a round with the Master.

In May, the English Ladies Golf Association brought the English Ladies Close Amateur Championship to West Lancashire and in the final, seventeen year old Kiran Matharu (Cookridge Hall) beat Naomi Edwards (Ganton) by 5&4 to take her first major championship.
