Paul Lawrie led the field in Final Qualifying at West Lancashire.

In July, the Open Championship returned to Royal Birkdale and Paul Lawrie led the field in Final Qualifying at West Lancashire. He won the Open Championship at Carnoustie the following year. West Lancashire Golf Club 125 Years

Celebrates with an anniversary dinner in August. John Scrivener, President of the EGU, was the Principal Guest, and Tony Metcalfe, Captain, receives the Tom Johnson Salver from Sands Johnson, which had been presented to his late father, when Captain of West Lancashire, in the Centenary Year, 1973.

1996

West Lancashire and Ormskirk hosted England Golf Unions English Open Seniors Championship.

In June, West Lancashire and Ormskirk hosted England Golf Union’s English Open Seniors’ Championship, and with the final at Blundellsands, Gordon Edwards (Bromborough) and Brian Berney (Gerrards Cross) tied with a three round score of 224. West Lancashire hosted Final Qualifying for the 120th Open Championship

In July, the 120th Open Championship was held at Royal Birkdale and West Lancashire once again hosted Final Qualifying during which Peter O’Malley (Australia) emerged as the leading qualifier with a total score of 141.
